I have created the option to group by month and year but am having trouble sorting by date. Can anyone help.

this can be done by creating another calculated column and select type as number and sort by the new column

Your method does group by month but is in Alpha order not date order. How can I get the list to group by month, display it as “mmmm, yyyy”, but sorted in date order?

You have to open Sql management studio and take back up of SharePoint_Config database not table (sorry typo in my post)

I would recommond using STSADM because that way you ensure that you are not right track and doing things correct.
You can go through central admin but you will find that there are no options to restore or move admin databases

excellent!!! i visited many sites but could not find any solution. This is exactly what i wanted. But this is not supported by microsoft but again you have to make changes to config db if you want to make it work.

it looks like it is a bug in sharepoint 2007
